“What’s for dinner?” is a common
question in most households, and I bet more than once those of us that do the
daily cooking and shopping have often wished someone else would think of an
answer. We, or rather I, like to take on different challenges food challenges.
For instance, one year I did all the national holidays, and ‘awareness weeks’
like Sausage week, St Patrick’s Day and Vegetarian week. Last year I did a
challenge that changed the “what are we having for dinner?” cry to “will we
have this again?” as I cooked a different meal for each day, we managed 6
months before the family said ENOUGH!
This year the family (me, husband and son) all agreed what the
cooking challenge would be, a meal from a different country at least once a
week. An atlas was got and we went through it picking out random countries.
Then we put them all in a hat (well a plastic takeaway box, if I am honest but
a hat just sounds so much better!). We pick out a week in advance, so I have time to research what we
could have. I will use the library, as well as the cookery books I have and the
internet. Although, if I use the internet I want to make sure it is authentic. I might even ask friend from overseas for help.
We then said we would score out of 10, but I am not so sure of that. I guess now that instead of the usual cry of "What's for dinner?" I am going to hear "Where's this from?"
So, go on, join us on our food adventure....
